ஊரைக் கூட்டி பார்ட்டி என்ற பெயரில் கூத்தடிப்பது அருவருக்கத் தக்க அளவுகளுக்கு வளர்ந்து வருகிறது. தனிப்பட்ட அல்லது குடும்ப அளவில் நிகழ்த்தப் பட வேண்டிய நிகழ்வுகளும் பகட்டு மற்றும் ஆடம்பரப் பொது விழாக்களாகி வருகின்றன. ஸஷ்டி அப்த பூர்த்தி, சதாபிஷேகம் அல்லது வர்ஷந்தோறும் வரும் பிறந்த நாள் போன்ற தருணங்கள் அகத்தேடலுக்காகவும் வாழ்க்கை ஓட்டத்தை பரிசீலனை செய்வதற்காகவும் பயன்பட வேண்டிய தருணங்கள். பிறந்த நாள் வாழ்க்கைப் பயணத்தில் கடந்து வந்த பாதை, நம் செயல்கள், சொற்கள் மற்றும் அனுபவங்களைக் கணக்குப் பார்த்து, செய்ய வேண்டியவை தவிர்க்க வேண்டியவை, இவற்றை நிர்ணயம் செய்து வாழ்வின் திசையை சரி செய்வதற்கு ஏற்ற தருணம். ஸஷ்டி அப்த பூர்த்தி (6௦ வயசு பூர்த்தி) குடும்ப எல்லைக்குள் முடங்கி இருந்த வாழ்க்கையின் எல்லையை விரிப்பதற்கானதொரு தருணம். க்ரிஹஸ்த ஆஷ்ரமத்தை விட்டு விலகி வான-ப்ரஸ்த ஆஷ்ரமத்தினுள் நுழைவதற்கான தருணம். உபநயனம் ஞான உலகத்தினுள் அடி எடுத்து வைப்பதற்கான நுழைவாயில் என்றால், திருமணம் க்ரிஹஸ்தாஷ்ராமத்திற்கான நுழைவாயில் என்றால், குடும்பப் பொறுப்பினை ஏற்றுக் கொள்வதற்கானதொரு தருணம் என்றால், ஸஷ்டி அப்த பூ

Socializing and partying are developing to maniac level. Even the events and occasions which deserve to be purely personal or family affair are being turned into a 'crowd' affair. Shashti abdha poorthi or Shathabhishekam or birth days are personal occasions meant for retrospection and an evaluation of life. Annual birth day offers an occasion for stock-taking, for re-adjusting priorities, for fine-tuning direction of our life journey.
