PHRASES IN THE GITA - 33
கர்மண்யகர்ம யஹ் பஶ்யேத் அகர்மணி ச கர்ம யஹ் ஸ புத்திமான் மனுஷ்யஹ் ...(அத்யாயம் 4 - ஶ்லோகம் 18)
Karmanyakarma Yah Pashyed Akarmani cha Karma yah Sa Buddhimaan Manushyah ... (Chapter 4 - Shlokam 18)
MEANING : He is wise who sees Akarma in Karma and Karma in Akarma. (Inaction in action and action in inaction.)
We have already discussed Karma and Akarma in our previous note. Let us look for something else in this phrase. This phrase suggests the significance of 'Looking Beyond'... Looking beyond the obvious; Looking beyond the present moment; Looking beyond our own 'narrow and routine' thoughts and ideas; Looking beyond is a significant habit or an attitude. (A habit is that which can be cultivated through practice. An attitude is 'Swabhava' and is born with us. One who believes in Divine Will or Destiny may call this an Attitude and the one who believes in Power of Self and Will Power may choose to call this a Habit.)
A businessman who looks beyond traditional practices and his own routine efforts expands his business to newer fields and greater horizons. A student or an observer of Nature who looks beyond the Obvious reaches deeper into secrets of Nature and contributes towards enrichment of Scientific Knowledge. A social worker who looks beyond the beaten track becomes a Revolutionary. One who looks beyond the obvious Sight, words and Sound becomes an Artiste, Poet or a Musician. One who looks beyond the present generation becomes a Visionary Statesman or Rshee. One who looks beyond this Gross and perceivable world becomes One with Paramaatman.
Looking beyond helps us to get over confusions and take vital decisions. Looking beyond helps us in becoming more balanced and unbiased. Looking beyond teaches us to pardon and destroy enmity. Looking beyond helps us eliminate Fears and win over situations.
Let us Look Beyond.. or Let us try to look beyond. We may or may not see anything, but effort itself is worthy.
