PHRASES IN THE GITA - 34
Yasya Sarve Samaarambhaah KaamaSankalpa Varjitaah (Chapter 4 - Shloka 19)
Meaning : One whose actions are without any desire and Sankalpa...
Let us try to grasp the intent of the words used here. ,.
A clash begins between Sankalpa and Vikalpa in the mind.. Kaama or desire takes birth if all the Vikalpa are eliminated and only Sankalpa remain after this clash.. "I need this"; "I will acquire this"; "I shall accomplish this"; "What is the point in my existence if I can not do this ?"... and so on . These are manifestations of Desire or Kaama.
There is a Universal belief that Sankalpa and Kaama are the driving force for any action. There can not be any action in the absence of Sankalpa and Kaama, they feel.. Shri Krishna, on the contrary favours actions without Sankalpa and Kaama..May our actions be based on the conviction of Duty. May our actions be natural reflection of our Swabhava and Swadharma (Our inherent attitude). May Shraddha or unflinching faith be the basis for our actions.
There is a new thought in vogue now a days.. "I will not accept this unless this stands the test of science." This seems to be the result of English education system and excessive propaganda of atheistic ideas and is a defective way of thinking. Science is progressively inching towards and has not reached the Ultimate Truth. There is more of aggressive exploitation of Science by vested, commercial interests. We are half-baked in science and choose not to question 'scientific - basis' of eatables, drugs, and many other objects flooding the market, but vigorously question anything and everything that comes with the tags of 'tradition', Dharma, etc.
May convictions of Duty, Dharma, and Swabhava and not Sankalpa and Kaama. guide us in our actions.
