PHRASES IN THE GITA - 63
सर्व भूतस्थमात्मानं सर्व भूतानि चात्मनि ... (अध्याय ६ - श्लोक २९)
ஸர்வ பூதஸ்தமாத்மானம் ஸர்வ பூதானி சாத்மானி ... (அத்யாயம் 6 - ஶ்லோகம் 29)
Sarva Bhootasthamaatmaanam Sarva Bhootaani Chaatmani ... (Chapter 6 - Shloka 29)
Meaning : To see self in every life and to see every life in self ...
To see self in every Life ... In simple words , To realize the pain , emotions of every Life and to think and act accordingly ...
To see every Life in Self ... To know the pain in others from painful experiences of self ...
Selfish-ness or Self-Centredness is the obstacle to such an expansion of Self , encompassing other Lives . There are some , thoroughly Self-centred , who can not feel one with own parents , wife , children and Cow and other animals and plants and trees in own house . Their expansion stops with Self .
There are many commoners around us who broaden their 'Self' to encompass this circle immediately next to them . They have tears for pains and sufferings of their parents , they retain readiness to perspire to see a smile on their child's face , those who feel the pain of cow delivering her calf and those who devote time for trees and plants in their garden . But , do they have tears for unrelated elders ? Are they ready to put in energy to grow a smile on the face of children , not own ? Do they feel for the Cow on the street and trees beyond their garden fence ? Yes . Their Self is expanded , expanded a little .. The feeling of 'Mine' stops their expansion beyond this small circle ..
What Shree Krishna suggests here is an Expansion beyond . It is difficult but not impossible . It is a rarity but not Utopia . There have been a long lineage of Sadhus who have achieved this . Hence they are respected and worshipped in Bharat .
Such an expansion is a step in the direction of Uniting with the Paramatman . This phrase has a key to the secret . 'Tha' (थ) used as a suffix means - 'fixed to' or 'firmly seated' . Here Sarva Bhootas'tha' means the One who is firmly seated in every Life . Paramatma is the one who is firmly seated in every Life . The real intent of this phrase is a "Yogi who sees Paramatman in every Life" .
