PHRASES IN THE GITA - 93

Sa Sarveshu Bhooteshu Nashyatsu Na Vinashyathi ...  (Chapter 8 - Shloka 20)

Meaning :  That which remains even after all the lives are dead and destroyed , is Him ...

What is taste ?  How do we know the taste of an edible thing ?  We place it on our tongue , crush and grind it with our teeth and swallow and sent it into the stomach .  Taste is that which remains on the tongue even after the snack disappears .  Taste was in every particle of the eatable , but remained hidden .  Taste is Form-less and can not be separated from the particle .  But , when the eatable is crushed , swallowed , it disappears , but the taste remains on the tongue .  It continues to remain even after the particles disappear .

What is Knowledge ?  Books , Pens , Schools , Colleges , teachers , Libraries , Laboratories , Buildings , Examinations , etc . are essential to get educated and gain Knowledge .  Education and Knowledge are impossible without these .  But , how does one know the Knowledge he has earned ?  Knowledge is that which remains after school days are over , college life is past , books , pens , examinations etc . have disappeared from his life , that which illumines his Inner self and guides him in his life , is the Knowledge for him .  Knowledge is Formless , abstract .  Knowledge is in books , pens , libraries , laboratories , teachers etc . but is hidden .  It is pregnant in all these and it is that which remains as essence , as a guiding Light in him even after all these have disappeared .

What is Life ?  The physical body , breathing , food , clothes , his actions , speech , his efforts at earling livelihood , instruments to help him in his efforts , vehicles ... and many such make his life ..  These are regarded as life by many . but life is beyond all these .  It is the essence which remains even after all these disappear , even after his physical body is also dead .  That is one's life .

Shree Krishna describes Shri Paramaatman here .  Every life was His creation .  Every life sprung into manifested state by Him .  He is Omni-present and is in every life .  He is the Power vested by im in lives that made them work .  (The Paramatman is not He or She .  We may also call Him , 'It') All the lives dissolve in Him at the time of Pralaya or Deluge .  That which remains even after all the Lives are destroyed m is Him .  He is in manifested state when lives are created .  He is in the form of Creation and lives in it .  When lives disappear at the times of dissolution , He continues in un-manifested state .  He Is .  He is the Only that Exists .

Chapter X (19 - 42)

Shri Bhagawan said:   I shall speak to Thee now, Oh best of the Kurus! of My Divine attributes, according to their prominence;   there is no end to the particulars of My manifestation. (X - 19) Arjuna asks for a detailed and complete elaboration on His manifestations.   Shri Krishna replies He will be brief in description.   Why?   ‘My manifestations are infinite’, says Shri Krishna.   Shri Krishna is in human form.   The Infinite Paramaatman has bound Himself in a finite Form.   A finite can not fully describe an Infinite.   The same Shri Krishna in the next chapter says, “See My Infinite Forms.   See as much as you wish”, when Arjuna expresses his desire to see His one Form.   Brief in words and Elaborate in Form.;. The discussion in the last shlokam continues here.   The listener’s ahankara tries to fathom the speaker.   The listener, Arj

Chapter IV (1 - 20)

\   ADHYAAY IV   GYANA KARMA SANYASA YOGAM Introduction This chapter named ‘Gnyana Karma Sanyasa Yog’ is a special one, as this is where Shri Krishna reveals the secrets of Avatara to Arjuna. We, as human have a natural weakness.  When a great thought is placed before us, instead of analysing the thought, understanding it and trying to put it into practise, almost all of us start worshipping the person who revealed the thought.  Worship of the Cross and the idols of Buddha can be quoted as examples.  One of the reasons for this may be that we deem him to be the originator of the thought.  Truths are eternal and can only be revealed and not invented.  You ask any educated person about ahimsa or non-violence.  You should not be surprised if he instantly come up with the answer, “Gandhi”.  You try to clarify that ‘almost two thousand years ago Shri Mahaveer based his life and religion solely on the principle of Ahimsa’ and ‘hundreds of years prior to that the Vedas, the Gi
