PHRASES IN THE GITA - 99

PHRASES IN THE GITA - 99

सदसच्चाहम्  ।  (अध्याय ९ - श्लोक १९)
ஸதஸச்சாஹம்  ...  (அத்யாயம் 9 - ஶ்லோகம் 19)
Sadasachchaaham  ...  (Chapter 9 - Shloka 19)

Meaning :  Real and Virtual ,Truth and Untruth , Existence and destruction ...  Both are Me .

Vedas contain elaboration by humans (the Rshis) on Him , the Paramaatman , while the Gita contains hints by Himself about Himself .  He answers to all possible questions that could possibly arise in human minds (Arjuna's mind) .

Wife cooks and feeds .  She prepares tasty food .  One of the days the food is in a different taste with less or more salt or chilly or is over or under cooked .  Should that call for arguments and fight ?  Tasty food and food of a different taste were both prepared by the one and same wife .

A rose plant gives daily beautiful roses with pleasant smell .  We pluck the flowers , offer at  the feet of God and experience bliss .  One of the days , a thorn pricks the hand plucking the flower .  Is anger justified ?  The plant gave pleasurable experience through its flowers .  It is the same plant which gives unpleasant and painful experience through its thorns .

Felicitation , Reception , Appreciation , Honour received while occupying a prominent position are pleasant to the mind .  Age , difference of opinion , change in political field , misconduct , mistakes may cause loss of the position or the same position offers abuses , insults and other unpleasant experiences .  The same position was the cause of both the contradicting experiences .

Listen to the words of Classius Clay , the Boxing champion .  "If you cry in practice sessions , you can laugh on contest rings .  Otherwise , you'll have to cry in the ring" .  The one and the same wrestling is the source of your crying and laughing .

The problem is not in wife or rose plant or position or wrestling .  The problem is with the person concerned .  He wants food to his liking .  He wants flower and the pleasantness that comes with it .  He wants appreciation , praise , honour and every other elating experience .  He hates unpleasantness everywhere .  He hates the bitter ones .  He refuses to see and accept that source for both is One and the Same .  He is surprised and shocked when forced to know this .

Creation is His .  He is the Creation .  Everything in Creation is Him and only Him .He is the Breeze .  He is the storm as well .  He is the drizzle .  He is the hailstorm as well .  He is the 'pleasant' and 'beautiful' morning sky .  He is the hot , scorching mid noon sky too .  He is the Spring .  Seemingly lifeless Autumn is also Him .  He is the green and lively pastures .  He is the dreaded desert too .  He is the playful waves in the sea .  The same He is killing cyclone and Tsunami .  He is the luring flower in a plant .  He also is the pricking thorn in the same plant .  He is the Life .  He is the death too .  It is His Creation and everything in it is Him .

The problem is not elsewhere .  The problem is in us .  We desire one and reject the other .  We assign marks to His creation and classify those as Favourable - Unfavourable , Sweet - Bitter ,  Comfortable - Painful , Pleasant - Unpleasant , Likeable - Horrible etc . etc .How could the One who created first types also create second types too" ? we wonder .  We refuse to accept that the opposites , contrasts could not have been created by One and the Same .  Christianity and Islam have designated two powers as the cause of these .  According to these faiths , God is the cause of the first type and Devil or Shaitaan (Satan) of the second type .

Shri Krishna says here , "No .  .  I am Sat and I am Asat too .  Divine is Me and the inert material too is Me .  Real is Me and the unreal or virual is also Me .  Both are My Creation .  Both are Myself" .

Chapter X (19 - 42)

Shri Bhagawan said:   I shall speak to Thee now, Oh best of the Kurus! of My Divine attributes, according to their prominence;   there is no end to the particulars of My manifestation. (X - 19) Arjuna asks for a detailed and complete elaboration on His manifestations.   Shri Krishna replies He will be brief in description.   Why?   ‘My manifestations are infinite’, says Shri Krishna.   Shri Krishna is in human form.   The Infinite Paramaatman has bound Himself in a finite Form.   A finite can not fully describe an Infinite.   The same Shri Krishna in the next chapter says, “See My Infinite Forms.   See as much as you wish”, when Arjuna expresses his desire to see His one Form.   Brief in words and Elaborate in Form.;. The discussion in the last shlokam continues here.   The listener’s ahankara tries to fathom the speaker.   The listener, Arj

Chapter IV (1 - 20)

\   ADHYAAY IV   GYANA KARMA SANYASA YOGAM Introduction This chapter named ‘Gnyana Karma Sanyasa Yog’ is a special one, as this is where Shri Krishna reveals the secrets of Avatara to Arjuna. We, as human have a natural weakness.  When a great thought is placed before us, instead of analysing the thought, understanding it and trying to put it into practise, almost all of us start worshipping the person who revealed the thought.  Worship of the Cross and the idols of Buddha can be quoted as examples.  One of the reasons for this may be that we deem him to be the originator of the thought.  Truths are eternal and can only be revealed and not invented.  You ask any educated person about ahimsa or non-violence.  You should not be surprised if he instantly come up with the answer, “Gandhi”.  You try to clarify that ‘almost two thousand years ago Shri Mahaveer based his life and religion solely on the principle of Ahimsa’ and ‘hundreds of years prior to that the Vedas, the Gi
