PHRASES IN THE GITA - 113

PHRASES IN THE GITA - 113

भूयः कथय तृप्तिर्हि शृण्वतो नास्ति मेSमृतम्   ... (अध्याय १० - श्लोकम १८)
பூயஹ கதய த்ருப்திர்ஹி ஶ்ருண்வதோ நாஸ்தி மே(அ)ம்ருதம்  ... (அத்யாயம் 10 - ஶ்லோகம் 18)
Bhooyah Kathaya Truptirhi Shrunvato Naasti Me(a)mrutam  ... (Chapter 10 - Shlokam 18)

Meaning :  I do not feel contented when I listen to Nectar like speech of yours ...

This phrase of words in the Gita reveals the wonderful relationship between the speaker and the listener .  The mindsets of the two (speker and the listener) and mutual relationships make a speech nectar-like for the listener .  The listener should have immense love for the speaker .  Arjuna has that in plenty for Shri Krishna .  Shri Krishna also has boundless love and affection for Arjuna .  He expresses the same through words like "Ishto(a)si , Priyo(a)si" in the Gita .

The language and the words spoken are not important for the speech to be sweet and Nectar-like .  The babbles of the child are nectar like for the parents .  The words of each other are mutually sweet and nectar-like for the beloved husband and wife .  The innocent blabber of disciple is sweet and nectar like for the Guru .  The same way , Guru's eloquent discourse soaked in wisdom and Knowledge are never tiring nectar shower for the disciple .  For the passionate patriot , words describing greatness of the Nation are nectar-like .  The devotee is never contented while listening to Bhagawaan's Virtues and Graceful acts .

The speaker's mind set is also significant .  The intention of his speech determines the impact caused on the mind of the listener .  This impact itself reveals the intention of the speech.  If thoughts on the speaker are aroused in listener's mind , (like "how beatifully does he talk" or "he seems so well read" etc .) then we may conclude that the speaker is speaking for self glorification , for applause and appreciation , for gratification of Ego .  If thoughts aroused are on the idea expressed in the speech , then we may conclude that the speaker is devoted to the Idea and speaks for empowerment of the Idea .  If the listener forgets self , plunges in to a state of Joy , then we may assume that the speaker also is speaking in a state of ectacy .  Nay !  It would be wrong to say that he is speaking .  He is just plunged deep in Blissful Joy and the speech pouring out from him .  Such a speech is Nectar-like .  The more one listens to such a speech , the discontented he feels .

The speaker Shri Krishna and the listener Arjuna here are in such a state and hence Arjuna says , "Oh Krishna !  You continue speaking .  You elaborate in detail your Vibhooti (your attributes) .  Your speech is Nectar Like .  My thirst to listen more and more is never quenched" .

Chapter X (19 - 42)

\ श्री भगवानुवाच - हन्त ते कथष्यामि दिव्या ह्यात्मविभूतय : । प्राधान्यत : कुरुश्रेष्ठ नास्त्यन्तो विस्तरस्य मे ॥ १९ ॥ Shri Bhagawan said:   I shall speak to Thee now, Oh best of the Kurus! of My Divine attributes, according to their prominence;   there is no end to the particulars of My manifestation. (X - 19) Arjuna asks for a detailed and complete elaboration on His manifestations.   Shri Krishna replies He will be brief in description.   Why?   ‘My manifestations are infinite’, says Shri Krishna.   Shri Krishna is in human form.   The Infinite Paramaatman has bound Himself in a finite Form.   A finite can not fully describe an Infinite.   The same Shri Krishna in the next chapter says, “See My Infinite Forms.   See as much as you wish”, when Arjuna expresses his desire to see His one Form.   Brief in words and Elaborate in Form.;. The discussion in the last shlokam continues here.   The listener’s ahankara tries to fathom the speaker.   The listener, Arj

Chapter IV (1 - 20)

\   ADHYAAY IV   GYANA KARMA SANYASA YOGAM Introduction This chapter named ‘Gnyana Karma Sanyasa Yog’ is a special one, as this is where Shri Krishna reveals the secrets of Avatara to Arjuna. We, as human have a natural weakness.  When a great thought is placed before us, instead of analysing the thought, understanding it and trying to put it into practise, almost all of us start worshipping the person who revealed the thought.  Worship of the Cross and the idols of Buddha can be quoted as examples.  One of the reasons for this may be that we deem him to be the originator of the thought.  Truths are eternal and can only be revealed and not invented.  You ask any educated person about ahimsa or non-violence.  You should not be surprised if he instantly come up with the answer, “Gandhi”.  You try to clarify that ‘almost two thousand years ago Shri Mahaveer based his life and religion solely on the principle of Ahimsa’ and ‘hundreds of years prior to that the Vedas, the Gi
