PHRASES IN THE GITA - 118

Yagyaanaam Japa Yagyo(s)mi ...  (Chapter 10 - Shlokam 25)

Meaning :  Among the Yagyas , I am Japa Yagyam ...

Brahma Nityam Yagye Pratishthitam ... said Shri Krishna in the third Chapter and declared that Yagya is the abode of Brahman .  Yagya is manifested form of Brahman .  Yagya is the Form of worship of Brahman .  Yagya is the way of journey towards Brahman .

Japa Yagya is esier among the various Yagyas .  Costly Dravya or materials offered to Fire are not required .  Elaborate arrangements are not required .  Complicated procedures are not required .  Organs given by God are enough to conduct Japa Yagya .  Vocal Chord and the Manas for Japa Yagya (repetition of the Mantra) .  Hand and Manas for Japa Yagya through writing .  Eyes and the Manas are enough for the Parayana or reading type Japa Yagya .  Ears and the Manas are enough for Shravana or listenig type Japa Yagya .  Thus , Manas is inevitable participant in Japa Yagya .  Presence of Manas and Active involvement of Manas ...  Japa Yagya in the absence of Manas is mechanical , lifeless and is worthless .

There is a suggestion to enforce presence of Manas while doing Japa and avoid mechanical repetition of Japa Mantras .  Movement of lips and the tongue and audible repetition of Names during Japa is lowly .  Must be avoided .  Japa may or may not be audible , but if lips and tongue move then it is mediocre .  Best is silent repetition of names without movement of lips and the tongue .

The number 27 lakhs is a significant number in Japa Yagya .

As we continue with Japa , the body , every cell in our body starts resonating the Japa Mantram .  Shri Anjaneya broadcast the sound form of Rama names from each and every hair on his body .  (Rom rom me Ram) .  Even the dried cow-dung cakes (used as fuel in villages) made by Vittala Devotee JanaBai , when dusted , made sounds Vittala Vittala .  It is said that a neighbouring woman had an argument with JanaaBai on ownership of cow-dung cakes .  JanaBai's cakes could be identified by the sounds of Vittala Vittala resonating from the cakes made by her .Swami Ramateerth was a great soul who visited the USA and made tremendous impact on the Amerikan society .  Continuous and rhythmic sounds of Ram , Ram emanated from his body , when he slept .  'Bharat is a Hindu Rashtra' .  This was the blabber under the influence of high fever of Dr Keshav Baliram Hedgewar , who founded the organization RSS .

We do the Japa in the beginning and in due course , Japa happens .  We reach a stage whence Japa goes on continuously within us , in our wakeful state and in sleep too .  Gita has blessed me with such wonderful experiences .

Both the Japa (the Practice) and the Sadhak plunged deeply in Japa (the Practitioner) cause trenmendous impact on Nature .  Shri Ramayana says that RshyaShrunga Rshee caused rains and resultant blooming and blossoming of the green , wherever he laid his feet on .  I , an ordinary sadhak , experienced rains on at least one of the three or five days of my stay at a place for Gita talks .  This happened at almost all of the three hundred odd places I went , including a few towns of scanty rains in Arabia .  (This is no credit for me but for the Japa Yagyam)

"Yagyaanaam Japa Yagyo(a)smi" .. says Shri Krishna .  I am Japa Yagya or meditative repetition among the various Yagyas .

Chapter X (19 - 42)

Shri Bhagawan said:   I shall speak to Thee now, Oh best of the Kurus! of My Divine attributes, according to their prominence;   there is no end to the particulars of My manifestation. (X - 19) Arjuna asks for a detailed and complete elaboration on His manifestations.   Shri Krishna replies He will be brief in description.   Why?   ‘My manifestations are infinite’, says Shri Krishna.   Shri Krishna is in human form.   The Infinite Paramaatman has bound Himself in a finite Form.   A finite can not fully describe an Infinite.   The same Shri Krishna in the next chapter says, “See My Infinite Forms.   See as much as you wish”, when Arjuna expresses his desire to see His one Form.   Brief in words and Elaborate in Form.;. The discussion in the last shlokam continues here.   The listener’s ahankara tries to fathom the speaker.   The listener, Arj

Chapter IV (1 - 20)

\   ADHYAAY IV   GYANA KARMA SANYASA YOGAM Introduction This chapter named ‘Gnyana Karma Sanyasa Yog’ is a special one, as this is where Shri Krishna reveals the secrets of Avatara to Arjuna. We, as human have a natural weakness.  When a great thought is placed before us, instead of analysing the thought, understanding it and trying to put it into practise, almost all of us start worshipping the person who revealed the thought.  Worship of the Cross and the idols of Buddha can be quoted as examples.  One of the reasons for this may be that we deem him to be the originator of the thought.  Truths are eternal and can only be revealed and not invented.  You ask any educated person about ahimsa or non-violence.  You should not be surprised if he instantly come up with the answer, “Gandhi”.  You try to clarify that ‘almost two thousand years ago Shri Mahaveer based his life and religion solely on the principle of Ahimsa’ and ‘hundreds of years prior to that the Vedas, the Gi
