PHRASES IN THE GITA - 157
मदर्थमपि कर्माणि कुर्वन् ... (अध्याय १२ - श्लोक १०)
மதர்தமபி கர்மாணி குர்வன் ... (அத்யாயம் 12 - ஶ்லோகம் 10)
Madarthamapi Karmaani Kurvan ... (Chapter 12 - Shlokam 10)
Meaning : Perform actions for Me ..
Perform all actions for Me .. This is one of the various suggestions by Shri Krishna in devotion to a Form .. (Saguna Upaasanaa) The example of parents is the best to understand this .. Mother does everything for her child .. She cooks for child's healthy growth .. She remains awake with him to motivate him in studies .. She learns new subjects to teach the child .. In case of sudden death of husband , the only earning member in the family , she who has never stepped out of the house , one who is unaware of the hardships in outer world , assumes responsibility , learns new trades , faces hardships and challenges and successfully brings up the children ..
The father roams in the outer world , perspires , faces so many types of hurdles , bears so many insults and hurts and earns money .. He patiently builds up assets and property .. He feels extremely happy when the daughter moves into a good family after marriage .. He gets silently overwhelmed when his son attains glorious heights .. His perspiring efforts , his smiles , his anxieties , his plans , his worries , everything is for the children .. My father had smoking habit .. On my twelfth birthday , when he lighted a cigarette , a thought arose in his mind .. "My son is twelve years old and is growing up .. Is this habit of mine worthy ?" He instantly threw the cigarette and crushed the same under his toe .. The years old habit disappeared in a moment .. Every action for children ..
The child is a living entity in flesh and blood .. The parents regard the child as own creation .. They bind with the child with a feeling of 'mine' .. Hence , it may not be too difficult , though it is not very easy either , to live for the child and perform all actions for the child .. The Divine Form in the minds of the devotee is super imposed on the Vigraha or Idol . The Form does not move around , does not talk or respond . Devotion to the Divine Form and performance of all actions for It is very difficult preposition .. The Gopis in Gokul Brindavan are the best examples of such a devotion .. Their minds were ever filled with devotion to Shri Krishna .. All their actions were only for Him .. Even this may not be difficult as Shri Krishna was there , right in front of their eyes , played on flute , grazed the cows , danced and played in the village .. They continued in the same state even after Shri Krishna moved out of Gokul Brindavan , never to return .. Meera is a glorious example of Devotion to the Paramatman in Saguna , Saakaar Form .. She regarded the Idol of Muralidhara Krishna as Shri Krishna Himself .. She sang for Him .. She danced for Him .. She even swallowed poison for Him .. Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa is one more glaring example in recent times .. He regarded the Idol in the temple as Jagantha (Cosmic Mother) Kali . He lived for Her , performed all actions for Her ..
