PHRASES IN THE GITA - 175
विविक्त देश सेवित्त्वम ।। (अध्याय १३ - श्लोक १०)
விவிக்த தேஶ ஸேவித்வம் .. (அத்யாயம் 13 - ஶ்லோகம் 10)
Vivikta Desha Sevithvam .. (Chapter 13 - Shloka 10)
Meaning : To retain the habit of staying aloof ..
To seek seclusion .. desire to be aloof .. away from crowds .. Seclusion is possible in spots away from people .. Hill tops , caves , River sides , forests etc . are the spots approached by these "seclusion seeking" persons .. But , 'being away from world' inside is more omprtane than moving away from crowds in the outer world .. It is very easy to find a place where none dwells .. It is not very difficult to reach the spot .. This quest for "staying aloof" is commercially exploited by men claiming to be 'holy men' .. They build huge Ashrams in such spots and invite the seekers .. The seekers too pay fees in thousands , stay in these comfortable Ashrams for a couple of days , listen to lectures by 'holy men' and return home with a false sense of 'spiritual progress' ..
Aloofness ... being away from glittering and luring world at mind level is more important than going to places away from crowds .. Even if one stays surrounded by hectic and fast paced surroundings , surrounded by crowds .. he can deny entry of the excitement into his inner world .. That is seclusion in real sense .. Interest in entering the worlds of others and relishing their experiences , especially the bad ones , allowing the happenings in the outer world to affect the inner calmness and peace .. are the three major hurdles to establishing silence and seclusion within ..
Seeking secluded and quiet place outside without establishing quietness and 'aloofness' within is like carrying strom within and search for peace outside .. I have experienced moments of this "quietness" and "aloofness" within during my bus journey from Nagpur to Jabalpur , when I was in my eighth class .. We are never disturbed by the external situation , once we experience this aloofness within ,..
