PHRASES IN THE GITA - 189
Sattvam RajasTama Iti Gunaah Prakruti Sambhavaah .. (Chapter 14 - Shloka 5)
Meaning : The three Gunas .. Sattvam , Rajas and Tamas are produced from Prakruti ..
Sattva , Rajas and Tamas are Three Gunas .. These are found in every aspect of creation .. The innumerable combinations of these three Gunas are the cause for equally innumerable types and varieties prevalent in Nature .. The plant lives , animal world , birds , insects , the humans .. all are combinations of three Gunas .. If the physical bodies are combinations of five basic elements , the subtler bodies in lives are combinations of these three Gunas .. These are the bases for attitudes .. There can be as many attitudes as there could be number of combinations ..
The revelation about Tri-Gunas by our great ancestors is a great contribution to the treasure of Knowledge .. In fact , this is a revolutionary revelation and has potential to cause immense impact fields of psycho - analysis ..
All the three Gunas are found in lives , may be in higher or lower proportions ..
Trigunas and innumerable combinations of these three gunas are mere types and not grades with superiority and inferiority tags .. None of these Gunas is superior or inferior to others .. The Gunas are manifestation of Prakruti or Maya and hence not useful in the journey towards Paramaatma or in the Sadhana for Self Realization .. The Sadhakas (travellers on the path towards Paramaatman) have to transcend these three gunas and transform into a Gunaateeta ..
May we not be tempted to analyze others (their Guna / Character) around us and start giving marks to them .. Study of Tri - Gunas is meant only facilitate "self analysis" and "self improvement" ..
