Anyaayenaartha Sanchayaan .. (Chapter 16 - Shlok 12)
Meaning : Asura earns and assorts wealth in unethical ways ..
Hindu Dharma talks about Purushaartha .. four of these .. Darma , Artha , Kaama and Moksha .. the purpose of human life .. One has to attain these in his life .. Artha or wealth is one of these .. It is an essential resource for an organized and successful human life ..
Artha and Kaama .. wealth and desire (including sexual desires ..) are essential .. are inevitable .. but these must be within the bounds of Dharma .. These must be ethical .. Unethical wealth and unethical desires are regarded as sins .. Shri Krushna named extravagant spending as demoniac attitude in the last verse .. Now , He says , wealth earned in unethical ways is demoniac .. He has no objection to wealth .. Objection is only to unethical ways of earning ..
Which are unethical ways ? I think the way is known by the effects caused .. The ways which go with exploitation of Nature , cause destruction in Nature , exploitation of humans , cause destruction in human society , encroachment of others' property , embezzlement of others' wealth , to charge more than what is worth , illegal ways .. etc .
Exploitation of Nature : Polluting the river while producing .. diverting the whole river and using all the waters for factory , digging deeper and deeper and squandering and depleting ground water , bribing the Govt officials and politicians and encroaching forest land and hills for running 'Spiritual' factory of meditation , Yog , etc .. Illegal felling of trees , illegal mining , illegal draining of river sand , air pollution due to wrong ways adopted , dumping chemicals on land to make it give more and more harvest , stealing from common properties like river water and electricity ..
Exploitation of humans : Child labour , bringing in labour from far off regions and not providing sufficient arrangements even for basic needs , refusing to provide safety instruments and security arrangements in order to save a few bucks , lure small Kisans into selling their lands for an additional 30,000 or 50,000 Rupya and build factories and earn in Crores ..
Destruction in Nature : Pollution in Air , water and soil is the major destruction .. Destruction and depletion of natural resources like jungles , minerals and rivers , .. fertile lands turning arid due to the greed for more and more production ..
Causing destruction in human society : Destruction of village economy , village life and villages .. overflowing population in cities , overload on systems in cities , destruction of small scale industries , destruction of arts and crafts based traditional craftsmen ..
Embezzlement of others' wealth and assets : Encroachment is the worst epidemic in this regard .. Encroachment of temple lands , encroachment of rivers , lakes and drainage canals , encroachment lands belonging to Railways and other Governmental departments .. encroachment of roads , public footpaths , staircases .. Embezzlement of commoner's property and wealth by politicians and other powerful organizations using muscle power of their rowdy workers is very common in Tamil Nadu .. alluring commoners to invest in Chit (Cheat) funds through cine stars' advertizements is an oft repeated cheating newer and newer names ..
Charging more than what the work deserves : Right from Auto drivers to Purohits , motivation speakers , spiritual talkers , musicians , consultants , tuition masters , etc .. are parts of this disease .. I was in Erode for my work as Pracharak .. There was a cobbler on roadside of Nethaji Road .. torn shirt , torn dhotie , torn and patched up umbrella .. with almost the whole urban population going for Nike and other company footwears , his daily income must definitely be in two digits .. Thumb of my chappal was cut and I gave it to him for repairing .. He stitched it and I asked , "How much ?" "Give anything you're pleased with " he replied , probably fed up with our bargaining attitude for petty amounts .. I handed over a two-rupee note and started walking .. He clapped and called me .. I thought may be the note is torn or may be is not enough .. To my extreme surprise (surprise not at his action but because I did not expect it ..) he handed over one rupee to me .. I said , "OK !! You may keep it" "Any money earned beyond my efforts' worth will not do good for me or my family" he replied .. The general atmosphere in the society is exactly opposite to this .. Everyone wants quick money , maximum money with minimum efforts , that too half in white and the rest in black .. There is one popular speaker , motivational speaker , who earned in crores showing his thumb adn saying , 'You Can Win' .. He conducted a session in a college in Nagpur by a friend of mine .. The entry fee was Rupees 25,000 .. My friend would get Rs 7,000 per registration (to motivate him to fill up the auditorium) .. The rest amount of Rs 18,000 was to be given to him in black and white 60 / 40 ratio ..
Illegal ways : Circumventing laws of the land .. This an National epidemic .. Most of us are unaware of laws and do not want to know .. Even if we know , we lack firmness to follow those .. Even if we are firm enough to stand by the Laws , the systems do not favour .. The system is basically for the corrupt , the bulldozers , short-cutters etc . The system is tortuous for the straight and honest .. Cheating the Government on taxes is the major problem in this regard .. Showing lower production , fake losses , lower trade , etc .. , cheating the Govt and employees by refusing to comply by ESI , PPF and Pension rules .. Transport , Land registration , approvals for construction are the departments worst affected by this disease of illegality .. You can know this by open offices and regular working even on Sundays in these departments .. There is a feeble effort to discuss and create awareness when some dastardly accident happens .. only for a few days .. Everything returns to "Normal" in a few days .. The system basically is for the illegal ways , for the short cut ways and for saving a few bucks and for earning fast money ..
