PHRASES IN THE GITA - 229

ईश्वरोऽहं  ..  (अध्याय १६ - श्लोक १४)

ஈஶ்வரோ(அ)ஹம் ..  (அத்யாயம் 16 - ஶ்லோகம் 14)

Easwaro(a)ham ..  (Chapter 16 - Shloka 14)

Meaning :  Asura regards self as God ..

He knew that the God was superior to himself ..  He had realized His powers ..  That is why he meditated rigorously upon Him and got boon of Immortality (restrictions on the ways and means he could be killed with ..)  Once he got the boon , HiranyaKashipu began to regard self as powerful , all powerful ..  He declared self as God ..  He banned worship of Gods and ordered pictures of self to be portrayed everywhere and his own name to be displayed everywhere ..  This is what Shri Krishna calls demoniac ..

This is not just an epic story ..  We see this being enacted even in present times ..  We can find many examples exhibiting demoniac attitude around us ..  But , let us grasp the meaning of the term before we see examples ..  Eashwarah is person and Aishwarya is the power ..  Eashwara is the person who has Aishwarya and Aishwarya is the power possessed by Eashwarah ..  What is Aishwarya ??  It is Hegemony or power or authority or control ..  Eashwar is one who has perfect Hegemony , complete control ..  He is the Boss ..  Everything in this vast creation moves , revolves , rotates , stops , survives , perishes according to Eashwara's wishes and dictates ..  Nothing happens against His wish or without His dictate ..  All the planets , milky ways , holes , lives in our planet up to the minutest ones follow His orders ..  When anyone denies existence of God , says there no God , we can ignore his words as these reflect his absence of logic and rational thinking .. his inability to rise beyond sensual world ..  his short sightedness in not being able to 'see' the subtler aspects ..  There is no dearth of such persons ..  We may pardon such persons for their stupidity ..  But , when a person regards self as God , then he definitely holding fast to Untruth ..  He is a hypocrite ..

Do we have perfect control over our own bodies ??  Does the body behave as per our wishes and commands ??  While performing Yog postures , the body is seated in a particular posture and the body seems to be in our control ..  But , the inner organs and systems ??  Do we have control over our digestive system , the heart beats , respiratory system , blood flow etc ..  These systems work , fail sometimes , recuperate again .. definitely not on our commands ..  Do we exercise control over diseases appearing in the body , old age setting in the body , death ..  These also happen ..  Your permission is never ever sought ..  Boss in control ..

These are all bodily matters ..  The body is the closest to us ..  Do we have sway over so many factors and aspects outside ..  Our relatives , our wives and children , our neighbours , our money , wind , heat from the Sun , temperature in town , rains , cyclones , earth quake and similar natural disasters ..  We have absolutely control over any of these ..  Our permission for these events to happen or stop ??  We are just insignificant in any of these happenings ..  These all happen and stop under the rules laid by some other power beyond our perception ..  Some other power sets the agenda for these and these work under His or Its commands ..

Then , what is the basis for his claim to be Eashwara .. the Boss ??  No basis ..  He just says ..  and that is demoniac ..

The politicians are probably the best examples who exhibit this trait ..  With folded hands , with humblest words , the politician fights an election ..  He falls at the feet of elders and shows respects ..  He cajoles , enthuses others with money and gifts and buys their support ..  He puts in lots of efforts ..  All these because he knows that the power vests with the people in a democracy ..  But , as soon as he ascends the throne , he turns into HiranyaKashipu and starts assuming self as Eashwara , the Boss who will control everything and everyone ..  He bans Gods , the people from nearing him ..  If reminded about the elections five years later , he will shrug off saying "five years ..  OK .. We will think about it when it comes ..

The party and cadre work hard , work together ..  One of them is smarter ..  The workers too recognize his abilities and support him ..  The party anoints him as leader ..  The moment he becomes the leader , he starts assuming self as the Boss and party as his personal property to be handed over to his son ..  The Gods whom he worshipped to attain this position in the party , the workers , the cadre is banned from entering his domain ...  A HiranyaKashipu again ..

The student studies ..  works hard .. prays for high marks ..  He uses services and assistance of many around him ..  He utilizes many systems during studies ..  He earns high degrees ..  He transforms into a HiranyaKashipu as soon as he earns his degrees ..  "These degrees are my achievements ..  I perspired for these ..  These are rewards for my Intelligence ..  Parents Hu !!  Town Hu !!  Country Hu !!" He merely flies away in search of someone who will purchase his degrees in exchange for a job and salary ..

Eashwaro(a)ham ..  I am the Eashwara ..  I am the Boss ..  These are not mere words but belief of an Asura ..
