போஜனம் தாமஸ ப்ரியம் ..  (அத்யாயம் 17 - ஶ்லோகம் 10)
Bhojanam Tamasapriyam  ..  (Chapter 17 - Shlokam 10)

Meaning :  Food which is liked by Tamasi ..

Which are the types of foods liked by Tamo Gunee or the person in mode of ignorance ..

Yaatayaamam ..  Stale food ..  Jama is a time span of around two hours and 24 minutes ..  Foods older than two hours time are stale foods ..  The stale foods get fermented and turn sour ..  Sour , fermented foods dim intellect ..Idli and Dosa are most prevalent foods in Tamil Nadu ..  The batter is made on the previous day , is allowed to ferment and turn sour and Idli or Dosa are made on the next day ..  In my childhood , Idli and Dosa were rarely made in our house ..  There were other types of tiffin varieties , so many of those ..  Those were fresh foods , made and served hot and fresh ..  Idli and Dosa were very rarely cooked ..  The fact that these required fermentation must have been the only reason for this rarity ..  Now a days , due to facilities like Mixer grinders and Fridges , Idli and Dosa are almost a daily food ..  (Laziness is also a trait of Tamasa)  In many families in the Northern Bharat , Roti is made fresh and served hot on the plate directly from pan ..  Practice of preparing the Rotis for a week and preserving those is almost absent ..  I saw the other extreme scene in South Afrika ..  They prepare even vegetable curries , rice and rotis and keep those in freezers ..  As it is fermented , bakery products are also Yaatayaamam ..  Butter is fresh , but Cheese is stale food and hence fermented ..

Amedyam ..  Impure foods ..

Liquor , Meat varieties , impure foods , stale foods , fermented and decayed food types are all liked by Tamo Gunee ..

Tamo Gunee never bothers about the effects of foods on the body ..  Hence , Shri Krishna does not mention effects of such foods ..

Chapter X (19 - 42)

Shri Bhagawan said:   I shall speak to Thee now, Oh best of the Kurus! of My Divine attributes, according to their prominence;   there is no end to the particulars of My manifestation. (X - 19) Arjuna asks for a detailed and complete elaboration on His manifestations.   Shri Krishna replies He will be brief in description.   Why?   ‘My manifestations are infinite’, says Shri Krishna.   Shri Krishna is in human form.   The Infinite Paramaatman has bound Himself in a finite Form.   A finite can not fully describe an Infinite.   The same Shri Krishna in the next chapter says, “See My Infinite Forms.   See as much as you wish”, when Arjuna expresses his desire to see His one Form.   Brief in words and Elaborate in Form.;. The discussion in the last shlokam continues here.   The listener’s ahankara tries to fathom the speaker.   The listener, Arj

\   ADHYAAY IV   GYANA KARMA SANYASA YOGAM Introduction This chapter named ‘Gnyana Karma Sanyasa Yog’ is a special one, as this is where Shri Krishna reveals the secrets of Avatara to Arjuna. We, as human have a natural weakness.  When a great thought is placed before us, instead of analysing the thought, understanding it and trying to put it into practise, almost all of us start worshipping the person who revealed the thought.  Worship of the Cross and the idols of Buddha can be quoted as examples.  One of the reasons for this may be that we deem him to be the originator of the thought.  Truths are eternal and can only be revealed and not invented.  You ask any educated person about ahimsa or non-violence.  You should not be surprised if he instantly come up with the answer, “Gandhi”.  You try to clarify that ‘almost two thousand years ago Shri Mahaveer based his life and religion solely on the principle of Ahimsa’ and ‘hundreds of years prior to that the Vedas, the Gi
