Taddaanam Sattvikam .. (Chapter 17 - Shlokam 20)
Meaning : That is Charity by the person in Mode of Goodness (Saattvika) ..
Shri Krishna talks here about the virtue of 'Charity or Donation' .. How does Saattvika person , person in mode of Knowledge donate or involve in charity ??
The suffix 'vyam' in Samskrit suggests that '... needs to be done' or '... deserves to be done' .. Daatavyam is 'Donation needs to be given' .. Kartavyam is 'the work deserves to be done' ... Gantavyam is 'the goal or destination needs to be reached' .. Praaptavyam is 'It is worth being attained' .. etc .
Daatavyam .. This needs to be given .. This is a well deserved charity .. Such is the only motivation for a Saattvika person to donate or involve in charity .. He does not need any other motivation ..
The returns from a donation or charity are in form of appreciation , feeling of indebtedness and effort to pay back through a noble gesture or deed .. Anupakaarinee is someone who is not in a position for return-charity .. A Saattvika person donates to such a person , who may never ever appreciate or feel indebted or try to return the charity done .. A mentally disturbed or mentally challenged individual , an old and infirm man , person unconscious due to accident or disease , an unknown and unrelated person , a child .. A Saattvika person prefers to remain anonymous while involving in charity or while donating .. "The left hand should not know a donation or charity performed by the right hand", is a popular saying in Tamil ..
