PHRASES IN THE GITA - 257
Na Dweshtyakushalam Karma kushale Naanushajjate ... (Chapter 18 - Shloka 10)
Meaning : He neither avoids disagreeable work nor does he seek agreeable one ..
The person with dominantly Saattvika mode is not attached to action and fruits of actions .. Non - attachment with fruits is easily understandable .. But , how does one be unattached with action ?? Shri Krishna offers an explanation here .. Saattvika person does not hate and avoid disagreeable work , work which his mind does not relish , work which he is not comfortable with .. Why does a work become disagreeable ? He may deem it unsuitable for his stature .. He may feel he is more qualified and is eligible for 'better' work than the one offered .. He may feel that the work does not generate honour and respect for self in the society .. One may feel discomfort doing the work as he regards the work against his own value system .. Yet , Sattvika person does not hate and hence does not desist from such actions .. Similarly , he does not seek comfortable and agreeable works .. This attitude is possible by doing a work with 'sense of duty' .
