PHRASES IN THE GITA - 273
धृत्या यया धारयते मनःप्राणेन्द्रियक्रियाः योगेनाव्यभिचारिण्या धृतिः सा सात्त्विकी .. (अध्याय १८ - श्लोक ३३)
த்ருத்யா யயா தாரயதே மனஹ - ப்ராணேந்த்ரியாஹ க்ரியாஹ் யோகேனாவ்யபிசாரிண்யா த்ருதி ஸா ஸாத்விகீ .. (அத்யாயம் 18 - ஶ்லோகம் 33)
Dhrutyaa Yayaa Dhaarayate Manah Praanendriya Kriyaah Yogena Avyabhichaarinya dhrutih saa Saattviki .. (Chapter 18 - Shlokam 33)
Meaning : The steadfast will which is developed through Yog and which sustains activities of Mind , Prana and senses , is Sattvika Dhruti ..
Determination begets determination .. Will power generates will power .. Determined efforts generate steadfastness in mind .. "Continuous practice .. " or "consistent efforts .. " is the prime condition in Yogik practice .. Practice of Asanas or postures eliminates unnecessary actions and steadies the body .. The body becomes fit instrument in the actions assigned to it .. The mind gets more focussed and determined through Pranayama practice .. Its hop hop nature is curtailed .. Such a mind easily overcomes hurdles and does not fall for allurements .. The practice of Pranayama and Dhyana also nourishes and sustains Prana or Vital Energy ..
The determination or Steadfastness developed through practice of Yog which strengthens Mind , senses and Prana is Saattvika Dhruti ..
Dhruti is detemination --- steadfastness --- will power ... Practice on the path of Yog enhances will power .. The mind becomes focussed and determined .. The senses become sharper and more efficient .. Prana or the vital force is conserved .. This will - power is essential in demolition of obstacles and hurdles on the path towards Life's goal .. This will - power also prevents mind from getting entangled in allurements .. This is Sattvik Dhruti ..
