A Brahman's actions reflect these traits ..

(1) . Shamah -  Calm ...  absence of anxiety ..  (2) . Damah -  Restraint ..  Control over senses ..  Discipline ..  (3) . Tapah -  Austerities .. crossing all hurdles , obstacles , allurements , persistent and continuous efforts ..  (4) . Shoucham -  Purity both external and inner ...  (5) . These are traits ..  natural traits in a Brahmin -  His actions , words and thoughts , his very life radiate these traits ..

Shamah or Calmness , Damah or restrain and Tapah or austerity combine to motivate a person for fields like Music , Literature , Worship , Yog , Veda recital ... fields which demand continuous and persistent practice , years and years of practice ..  In a few cases , whole life is spent in acquiring mastery ..  There are many , who sing well , born in every section of the society ..  But , only those bestowed with deep peace and tranquility within reach depths of Music ..  Leave alone reaching the depths , even the travel towards these depths demands inner peace ..

Shoucham --  Purity ..  Purity in body .. purity in speech and purity in thought ..  Practice of taking bath twice a day , wearing washed clothes and Religious rite of Aachamaneeya are for bodily purity .. Insistence on perfect pronunciation , usage of good and positive words avoiding foul words , speech with a purpose are for purity in speech ..  Worship , Veda recital , Satsang etc . are for purity in thought ..  These are daily practices for a Brahmin ..

Kshanthi or the trait of forgiving ..  Forbearance ..  Seeking revenge , urge to retort , desire to show 'who I am' .. etc . are common traits in worldly interactions ..  These traits derail us from our chosen paths ..  These are potent enough to divert us from the field we prefer to live in ..  These very easily disturb our spiritual practices ..  Kshanthi is strengthened by firm faith in the Divine and in goodness .

Aarjavam --  Honesty , straight forward , transparent personality , non - complex simple personality .. There is no disparity between appearance and reality ..  Faith in God strengthens this trait ..

Gyaanam --  Desire to know , strive to know ..  sincere efforts , continuous efforts , are essential to gain Knowledge ..  Thirst is essential , not for superficial knowledge but thirst to reach fundamental and basic truths ..

Vigyaanam --  Vigyaanam may be called 'wisdom' ..  It may be translated as 'application of knowledge in life' ..  This trait is reflection of honesty ..  If one knows a thing , he must honestly try to apply the knowledge in life ..

Aastikyam --  Faith in existence of God ..  Faith in existence of a power superior to we humans ..  This is very foundation of Brahmin identity ..  Brahmin can turn a naxalite , as a result of anger over 'injustice' ..  But , he can never be part of a movement like Dravida Kazhagam , founded on denial and hatred for Godhood ..

"These traits reveal in Brahman's actions" says Shri Krishna ..

Chapter X (19 - 42)

Shri Bhagawan said:   I shall speak to Thee now, Oh best of the Kurus! of My Divine attributes, according to their prominence;   there is no end to the particulars of My manifestation. (X - 19) Arjuna asks for a detailed and complete elaboration on His manifestations.   Shri Krishna replies He will be brief in description.   Why?   ‘My manifestations are infinite’, says Shri Krishna.   Shri Krishna is in human form.   The Infinite Paramaatman has bound Himself in a finite Form.   A finite can not fully describe an Infinite.   The same Shri Krishna in the next chapter says, “See My Infinite Forms.   See as much as you wish”, when Arjuna expresses his desire to see His one Form.   Brief in words and Elaborate in Form.;. The discussion in the last shlokam continues here.   The listener’s ahankara tries to fathom the speaker.   The listener, Arj

Chapter IV (1 - 20)

\   ADHYAAY IV   GYANA KARMA SANYASA YOGAM Introduction This chapter named ‘Gnyana Karma Sanyasa Yog’ is a special one, as this is where Shri Krishna reveals the secrets of Avatara to Arjuna. We, as human have a natural weakness.  When a great thought is placed before us, instead of analysing the thought, understanding it and trying to put it into practise, almost all of us start worshipping the person who revealed the thought.  Worship of the Cross and the idols of Buddha can be quoted as examples.  One of the reasons for this may be that we deem him to be the originator of the thought.  Truths are eternal and can only be revealed and not invented.  You ask any educated person about ahimsa or non-violence.  You should not be surprised if he instantly come up with the answer, “Gandhi”.  You try to clarify that ‘almost two thousand years ago Shri Mahaveer based his life and religion solely on the principle of Ahimsa’ and ‘hundreds of years prior to that the Vedas, the Gi
