PHRASES IN THE GITA - 284
शूद्रस्यापि स्वभावजम ... (अध्याय १८ - श्लोक ४४)
ஶூத்ரஸ்யாபி ஸ்வபாவஜம் ... (அத்யாயம் 18 - ஶ்லோகம் 44)
Shoodrasyaapi Swabhaavajam ... (Chapter 18 - Shloka 44)
Meaning : Nature of Shudra ...
"Paricharyaatmakam Karma Shoodrasyaapi Swabhaavajam" says Shree Krishna .. The natural action of a Shoodra is physical or bodily service ..
As discussed in previous chapters , these traits or natures are water-tight compartments , four distinct natures .. These are found in mixed proportions in everyone .. One of these may be prominent and dominant .. Physical hard work may or may not be found with thinking .. Knowledge or intelligence may or may not accompany physical labour .. Labour may or may be supported by "calculation or conversion in terms of money" .. Similarly , business and wealth generation requires hard work too .. Physical hard work is necessary for a life of knowledge or pursuit of Knowledge .. A life of valour or bravery also needs physical labour .. Thus , all the four traits are found in an individual .. I stayed today with a family in Rajapalayam , in my NaMo campaign trail .. The mother has carved thousands of mini - sculptures in chalk .. She has created whole Ramayan and Mahabharat through her chalk sculptures .. She has been silently creating these sculptures since her school days , i . e for almost 45 years now .. She is a mother and hence had other duties too .. It has been a life of silent penance .. This is a work of physical labour , but requires knowledge , resources and patience .. Hence , there is a Brahmin in her (Knowledge) .. There is a Vaishya in her (Resources) .. There is a Kshatriya in her (Courage and steadfastness) .. Trait of Shoodra (Hard work and physical service) is prominent in her . Hard , patient and consistent labour is the prominent nature in her .. That is a Shoodra trait , according to Shri Krishna ..
