Meaning : Relinquishing Ahankaar (Ego) ; Balam (Brute Strength) ; Darpam (Pride) ; Kaamam (Desire) ; Krodham (Anger) ; Parigraham (Acquisition or Accumulation) ...
Boosted ego or vanity , brute bodily strength , arrogance , lust , rage or vengeful - ness , tendency to accumulate things .. etc . are traits which are to be eliminated .. The word 'to be eliminated' raises a question .. Are these eliminated or vanquished naturally as result of Spiritual practices or are these to be eliminated through conscious and specific efforts ?? Inner purity is essential for attainment of Divine realization .. And these traits are impurities in our psyche .. Hence , these need to be eliminated ..
Conscious efforts to remove these by themselves make these traits stronger and more deep rooted .. The thought of having successfully removed these may , in all probabilities , be deceptive and may not be true .. Such a thought may also boost vanity .. These traits are very subtle .. It is very difficult even to identify these in self .. To recognize their presence in us , is itself enough to restrain these .. The servants of an alert boss do not tend to cheat in work and do not resort to short cuts .. A vigilant house hold is usually avoided by thieves and decoits .. Similarly , these traits are weakened and gradually eliminated from the mind of a vigilant , conscious Spiritual Seeker ..
