PHRASES IN THE GITA - 293

यथेच्छसी तथा कुरु  ...  (अध्याय १८ - श्लोक ६३)
யதேச்சஸி ததா குரு  ...  (அத்யாயம் 18 - ஶ்லோகம் 63)
Yathechchasi Tathaa Kuru  ...  (Chapter 18 - Shloka 63)

Meaning :  Do what you think is right  ..

These words of Shri Krishna express the basic Hindu thought ..  There is no space in Hindu Dharma for Christian 'Commandments' ..  There are no Islamik Fatwaas in Hindu Dharma ..  There are no Divine orders in Hindu Dharma ..  There is absolute Freedom of Thought ..  There is absolute Freedom of Action ..  There is freedom even to deny God ..  But , each of our thoughts , every one of our actions have to face fruits as per the Laws of Nature ..  We can not just think and act and escape from the effects or fruits ..

If we desire freedom , we will have to accept responsibility too ..  Responsibility towards society , responsibility towards Nature , Responsibility towards self ..  Freedom brings with it 'reform' and 'change' ..  Freedom brings with it 'progress' , progress in tune with time ..  The semitic Religions which deny this Freedom also deny 'responsibility' to its followers .. responsibility towards society , Nature etc ..  why even responsibility towards self is denied ..  There is no scope for change and reform ..  There is no space for 'progress' either ..  The words or declarations in the Book have to be merely accepted as final ..  The commands of 'messenger' have to be accepted in Toto ..  If the followers desire reforms and progress , they have to discard the Book and Religion as the western world has done ..  If the followers have to rigidly hang on to the Book and Religion , they are denied progress and reforms and transformations ..  This is the biggest dilemma before Islamik world ..

These words are being spoken by Shri Krishna at the end of Gita ..  He says , "Oh My dear Parth !!  I have spoken in such a detail to you because you are dear to Me ..  Now you may act as per the suggestions of your inner self ..  You may act as you desire" ..  This is greatness of Hindu Dharma ..  It never commands , but only suggests ..  And this is the strength on which Hindu Dharma and Hindu Society have survived all sorts of rude and crude onslaughts ..  It has revived , rejuvenated and regained its majestic status from hopeless state of perish and death ..  This is the strength on which our great ancestors have declared 'Satyam Eva Jayate' ..  Truth will win against most brutal assaults ..  There is a popular phrase in Hindi ..  (नित्य नूतन - चिर पुरातन)  Nitya Nootan - Chira Puratana ..  Always Fresh and Young though very old ..  Being old brings Wisdom and being young brings the energy , enthusiasm , vision , transformation and progress ...

Chapter X (19 - 42)

Shri Bhagawan said:   I shall speak to Thee now, Oh best of the Kurus! of My Divine attributes, according to their prominence;   there is no end to the particulars of My manifestation. (X - 19) Arjuna asks for a detailed and complete elaboration on His manifestations.   Shri Krishna replies He will be brief in description.   Why?   ‘My manifestations are infinite’, says Shri Krishna.   Shri Krishna is in human form.   The Infinite Paramaatman has bound Himself in a finite Form.   A finite can not fully describe an Infinite.   The same Shri Krishna in the next chapter says, “See My Infinite Forms.   See as much as you wish”, when Arjuna expresses his desire to see His one Form.   Brief in words and Elaborate in Form.;. The discussion in the last shlokam continues here.   The listener’s ahankara tries to fathom the speaker.   The listener, Arj

Chapter IV (1 - 20)

\   ADHYAAY IV   GYANA KARMA SANYASA YOGAM Introduction This chapter named ‘Gnyana Karma Sanyasa Yog’ is a special one, as this is where Shri Krishna reveals the secrets of Avatara to Arjuna. We, as human have a natural weakness.  When a great thought is placed before us, instead of analysing the thought, understanding it and trying to put it into practise, almost all of us start worshipping the person who revealed the thought.  Worship of the Cross and the idols of Buddha can be quoted as examples.  One of the reasons for this may be that we deem him to be the originator of the thought.  Truths are eternal and can only be revealed and not invented.  You ask any educated person about ahimsa or non-violence.  You should not be surprised if he instantly come up with the answer, “Gandhi”.  You try to clarify that ‘almost two thousand years ago Shri Mahaveer based his life and religion solely on the principle of Ahimsa’ and ‘hundreds of years prior to that the Vedas, the Gi
