PHRASES IN THE GITA - 298
करिष्ये वचनं तव ... (अध्याय १८ - श्लोक ७३)
கரிஷ்யே வசனம் தவ ... (அத்யாயம் 18 - ஶ்லோகம் 73)
Karishye Vachanam Tava ... (Chapter 18 - Shloka 73)
Meaning : I will do as You say ...
These words are spoken by Arjuna .. "Karishye Vachanam Tava" or "I will do as you wish and bid" says Arjuna .. A few moments before , Shri Krishna had said , "Yathecchasi tathaa kuru" or "Do as you wish" .. Here Arjuna is responding with these words .. "Karishye Vachanam Tava" .. This is the beauty of Guru - Shishya tradition in Bharat ..
When the Guru or mentor Shri Krishna says , "Yathecchasi tathaa kuru" He is merely expressing a lofty vision nurtured by the great Rshis of Bharat .. Freedom of thought and freedom of action .. This is the foundation of Hindu thought .. This is not so authentically assured in other part of the world .. This freedom is essetial and inevitable for 'growth' of humans , feel our visionaries .. This freedom should never be denied , say our Rshis .. In the long history of Bharat , this freedom was denied and crushed only during Islaik rule of Mughals .. In independent Bharat , Indira Gandhi , who incidentally happens to be a Muslim and was brought up in Islamik environment , tried to crush this freedom during her despotic emergency rule ..
When Arjuna says "Karishye vachanam Tava" or "will do as you wish and bid" he too is expressing a noble Hindu tradition , the tradition of Samarpan or surrender .. This too is unique to Hindu Dharma and may not be found anywhere else in the world .. Surrender to elder brother , surrender to parents , surrender to a teacher , surrender to husband , surrender t the Divine , surrender to Values like Truth etc .. Many inspiring examples have been set of surrender , in Bharat ..
This surrender is not a forced one and is absolutely voluntary .. Surrender is despite the freedom to act as per own wish ..
